It starts with impactful black fruit—cassis, elderberry, black plum, and pomegranate—but quickly evolves into a symphony of floral, herbal, gamey, and spicy notes. Violets, black pepper, olive, clove, bacon, game meat, lavender, and rosemary all swirl in the glass, mingling with the fruit. The wine is deep and complex, with a finish built on its elegant structure, crisp acidity, and tight tannins. This wine will develop for decades to come.

Christopher’s Notes: The fruit was sourced from Sawmill in Hector, one of the premier sites in the Finger Lakes and a vineyard we have worked with since our first foray into red wines in 2010. With 100% stem inclusion, 21 days of fermentation—including pre- and post-macerations—and 21 months in neutral puncheon, this wine is a classic example of Finger Lakes Syrah.

Syrah

While Syrah is often associated with hot climates such as Australia, California, and Washington, its true home lies in the Northern Rhône Valley of France. Places like Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Hermitage are traditionally much cooler than their New World counterparts and continue to produce some of the most captivating wines in the world.

Spicy, savory, herbal, and peppery—these are traits Syrah has in spades, and they are what draw us to these wines. They go far beyond fruit, expressing olives, seaweed, white and black pepper, game, and smoke, making them truly captivating.

We believe Syrah has an incredible future in the Finger Lakes, and are thrilled to be championing this variety here.
