Showing waxy, golden hay and honeycomb notes on the nose, this wine displays its oxidative upbringing in large, neutral puncheons. The palate is creamy and rich, but with elegance, refinement, and bright acidity completing the wine and extending the finish.
Christopher’s Journal: The first harvest from Equilibrium Wine Farm, this wine was harvested from the Sun Spot and marked our first opportunity to see this block’s impact on the potential of Chardonnay. Raised in old puncheons, this wine went through full malo and spent 18 months resting on its fermentation lees in barrels.
Also available in Large Formats:
$132 / 1.5 L Magnum
$274 / 3 L Jeroboam
Chardonnay
With so much attention on Riesling, it is easy to overlook Chardonnay, but that would be a mistake. There is a reason Chardonnay was the first vinifera to be planted in the Finger Lakes. While it is sensitive to the bitter cold of Finger Lakes winters and requires planting in warmer, protected microclimates, during the growing season, the climate is perfect for Chardonnay. Whether it is grown to be vinified as a sparkling wine (one of the Finger Lakes’ hidden treasures) or as crisp, still Chardonnay, we believe this is one of the most exciting and unsung grapes in the Finger Lakes.
