2017 Element Syrah

$55.00 / 750ml

83 Cases Produced

It starts with impactful black fruit of cassis and elderberry, with black plum and pomegranate, but, it quickly turns to a symphony of floral, herbal, gamey and spicy notes. Violets, black pepper, olive, clove, bacon, game meat, lavender and rosemary all swirl in the glass, mingling with fruit. The wines deep, and complex, with a finish that is built on its elegant structure, with crisp acid and tight tannins. This wine will develop for decades to come.

Christopher’s Notes: The fruit was sourced from Sawmill in Hector, one of the premier sites in the Finger Lakes, and one in which we have been sourcing fruit since our first foray into red wines in 2010. 100% stem inclusion, 21 days of fermentation, including some pre and post macerations, followed by 21 months in neutral puncheon have created a really classic example of Finger Lakes Syrah.

Syrah

While Syrah is often associated with hot climates such as Australia, California and Washington, its home lies in the Northern Rhone Valley of France. Places like Cote Rotie, Cornas and Hermitage are much cooler traditionally than their new world alternatives, and continue to produce some of the most captivating wines in the world.

Spicy, savory, herbal and peppery are traits that Syrah has in spades, and that are what draws us to these wines. They go far beyond fruit, to express olives, seaweed, white and black pepper, game and smoke, making these truly captivating wines.

We believe Syrah has an incredible future in the Finger Lakes, and are so excited to be championing this variety here.
