Sauvage in aroma, this wine starts with its spicy, meaty, bacon-y quality before the ripe plum and bramble fruit notes round out the nose. Rich and mouthfilling, with waves of fruit and earth notes, it has a long, powerful finish and a long lifespan ahead.

This is one of the first wines we produced from our farm after taking over the farming in 2017. While the impacts of our farming practices are just beginning to show, the effects of this site are already evident in the weight, body, and structure of this wine.

Christopher’s Notes: This wine represents the first round of our single-vineyard expressions from around the Finger Lakes. It hails from Equilibrium Wine Farm, which sits just east of the deepest part of Seneca Lake, north of Lodi. With its 25-year-old vines dug deep into gravel and clay loam, this site naturally yields low quantities and produces wines with intense concentration and structure. These are voluminous wines, and we believe they are a perfect example of what can be produced in the Finger Lakes with respect for our climate and farming.

Syrah

While Syrah is often associated with hot climates such as Australia, California, and Washington, its true home lies in the Northern Rhône Valley of France. Places like Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Hermitage are traditionally much cooler than their New World counterparts and continue to produce some of the most captivating wines in the world.

Spicy, savory, herbal, and peppery—these are traits Syrah has in spades, and they are what draw us to these wines. They go far beyond fruit, expressing olives, seaweed, white and black pepper, game, and smoke, making them truly captivating.

We believe Syrah has an incredible future in the Finger Lakes, and are thrilled to be championing this variety here.
